Three Wands

Image
Mechanics are with Gutters, Guilds, and Grimoires in mind, but again should be easy enough to convert to your system of choice. Apologies for the poor image quality, the phone camera just didn't cut it on these. Gray Vengeance Projects colorless flame in a beam 80' long, dex save at disadvantage to avoid. Does dX+1 damage. If you roll max damage, the wand is partially depleted and goes down the die chain on future uses. (d8 -> d6 -> d4 -> depleted) Most wands start on d6. Minor wands of Gray Vengeance start on d4, Greater wands on d8. If 5+ damage is dealt with the wand, a mind point is temporarily drained from the victim. Burns inflicted with the wand are crumbly and colorless. Constructed from tempered dim glass with a core of witch ash taken from the death-pyre of Waruda the Traitor by sympathetic agents. Waruda was denounced by several rival Strigastadt nobles who claimed she was scheming to take the life of the Queen. She was stripped of her titles an...

Vatlings

Image
As previously stated , sorcerers grow artificial bodies in order to duplicate spells. Typically, very short-lived homunculi are used, lasting just long enough to get the job done. Some sorcerers create longer-lived homunculi via this process however, commonly referred to as vatlings. Here's a system for their creation accompanied by some bad scans of crappy watercolor splotch drawings I made. The demon-flesh samples used to grow vatlings are contained in specially-constructed zinc cylinders that stabilize the tissues for long-term storage. They're expensive to create and feed, so mostly sorcerers make do with a handful of strains, but if a new mutation is particularly useful it can be tempting to add to your repertoire. When finding a new tissue sample (from another sorcerer), roll random characteristics for the fleshy shells that strain creates (or just make something up):

Fogwatch

Image
The Fogwatch is one of the few respected institutions of Strigastadt, keeping vigilant for signs of Yellow Misama , Deep Purple Smog , and Black Smoke . Upon detecting traces of an imminent threat, a patrolling member of the Fogwatch will fire a colored flare into the sky at their location, indicating the nature of the gas present. Regularly-placed watchtowers scan the skies for these signals, and on sighting will start working the sirens, warning the populace to get indoors or evacuate. This defense system has saved countless lives as people respond like a well-oiled machine. One of the things that makes scavenging in the Grey District so dangerous is the lack of these warnings. Since the patrolling Fogwatch members are often at the cusp of the incoming gases, they are provided with gasmasks as proof against the initial lung- and eye-burning effects of Yellow Miasma and some Black Smokes, as well as grappling hooks in case of being caught away from accessible entrances to shelte...

Strigastadt Map

Image
After your brief reunion with extended family members in Strigastadt, you are handed a parcel they hope will serve you well in your planned scavenging forays. The handful of objects belonged to your cousin before her untimely passing. A member of the Sewer-Militia , she had carried this map with her on her last detail, and it bears the grime of repeated use. It appears to be some sort of schoolchild's exercise - a map of Strigastadt's boroughs all unlabeled. In tiny script, your home borough of Krüger has been labeled in an abortive enterprise to fill the blanks. Perhaps you can finish the job. My intention is for the party to explore the devastated Grey District from the start of the campaign, and move to city-crawl like adventures in the East End after they've gotten a handle on the place. I've divided the city into boroughs which are composed of a double fistful of neighborhoods each, allowing several levels of abstraction as needed. Each is as-yet unnamed - I...

Farm Tools

Image
Well after seeing the wonderful weapon list on Middenmurk, I thought I’d make my own version for fun and drawing practice. I thought it’d be neat to include the stat information right on the page, so everything you’d need would be at hand without look-ups. I think it'd work better if it was more densely packed and the title was left off - pretty sure folks would figure out which one was the farm tools table without it. I’m intending to do a few more tables for actual weapons, and one or two for armor. This particular table I’m imagining using for the “funnel” of zero-level characters, arming bands of peasants, or equipping humanoids who have recently raided farmsteads. The open pit saw in particular isn’t something a rational human would use (it requires two people due to its size) but it’d fit a creepy band of humanoids well. Kinda amusing until they manage to get in a hit and saw someone up. One neat thing about tables like the Middenmurk one is that you can...

Bargrish the Beautiful

Image
Unrelated to Strigastadt - but I felt like sharing. I joined a Labyrinth Lord campaign yesterday and enjoyed illustrating my doubtlessly short-lived character. Behold, Bargrish the Beautiful! Before he could even introduce himself he was assaulted by rats and contracted a disease - but gained some tasty snacks in recompense.
